Junior Golf Lessons

The Blandford Junior Golf Program is one of the best junior programs in the area. The Junior Golf Program is open to all juniors. Membership in The Blandford Club is not required. Ages 5 up to 17 are eligible. Adults are asked to accompany the juniors or make arrangements for an adult to be with the child's group while playing. A small fee is paid weekly and for the closing tournament and party where each child receives a gift for attending. Welcome to the 2010 Junior Golf/Tennis program at The Blandford Club!

Golf
We will meet every Tuesday morning starting on July 6th and continuing until August 24th. We gather at 8:15am and start with a group golf clinic at 8:30am led by golf professional Francis Kringle. Then, the younger crowd plays the first five holes in small groups led by parents. Teens also gather in small groups to play the sixth through ninth holes. Club members pay $4.00 per child and non-members pay $8.00 per child per week. Equipment: young golfers need only a 9-iron and putter.

Lunch
This year lunch will be available in our snack bar for kids and adults taking part in the program. Staci Iglesias will provide a fixed lunch menu each week which will include an entree, a side and a small dessert. The cost of the kids' lunch is $4.00. Adults can choose from the regular snack bar menu.

Tennis
After lunch, children interested in taking tennis lessons can head over to the tennis courts and see Blandford Club member Kurt Weber. He provides an hour-long group tennis lesson which costs $3.00 per child. Equipment: bring an appropriate youth tennis racket for your child's age, and have your child wear sneakers with smooth soles.

For those kids who do not want to play tennis, there will be an organized outdoor activity like volleyball, croquet or other simple games. Kids may also return to the golf course and continue play.

Important note for parents:
The Blandford Club is a private golf club which is run primarily by its member volunteers. We are proud to offer this outstanding junior golf/tennis program to children in our community and need the support of parents to make it a success. As in past years, we need each child to be responsible to an adult who stays with them throughout the day. It is essential that the supervising adults will not only take the children around the golf course but will also supervise them closely during lunch, tennis and any other outdoor activity.

Safety
Safety is very important on the golf course and tennis court. It is crucial that the children taking part in this program respect the playing areas and the clubhouse. Also, teach your child to stand well away from others swinging a golf club and be aware of their surroundings during the lessons and play. Perhaps the most important safety reminder is that only adults are allowed to drive the golf carts. Walking is part of the fitness aspect of golf and the children are expected to walk from shot to shot and hole to hole. If children do ride in the cart, they must be seated appropriately, not standing on the back or sides of the cart. Don't forget to bring bug spray, sunscreen and a hat!

Schedule note
The final week of our program, August 24th, starts a little later at 9:30am. We play a scramble tournament with adults joining in play. We end with a pizza party and prizes for the kids. There will be no tennis on that afternoon making August 17th the last week of tennis lessons.
